CrossFit Kids is not
simply a scaled down
version of CrossFit
It is a version of CrossFit geared and designed for a special population (kids) and the specific developmental needs of that population – (neurological, cognitive, and motor.)
Since Late 2004 CrossFit Kids has been Forging The Future Of Fitness and is currently in over 400 gyms in North America, Australia, Europe, Africa, India, Japan and Panama. CrossFit Kids is a strength and conditioning program that is specifically designed for kids and teenagers and helps them develop a lifelong love of fitness.
In a group setting, children and teens participate in fun and engaging workouts that deliver measurable results and prepare them to be well- rounded athletes. With a network of over 2000 CrossFit Kids Trainers, CrossFit Kids is being implemented in preschools to high schools with before-and-after school programs and integration into Physical Education curriculum.
CrossFit Kids workouts consist of constantly varied, functional movements that deliver a fitness that is broad, inclusive and general and scalable for any participant at any level.
What Does this mean?
This means that, for the most part, no two workouts are the same, so kids and teens never get bored and the novelty of each workout keeps them excited about participating. The functional movements involve exercises that are fundamental to all things that kids need to do when they play-pull, push, run, throw, climb, lift and jump. All of the movements are taught safely and effectively under the close supervision of thoroughly trained CrossFit Kids Trainers.
When fitness is defined as broad, inclusive and general it means that participants will become well-rounded athletes who will be better at any and every sport that they play because CrossFit Kids doesn’t coach them to be good at just one thing. Our workouts will increase physical competence in 10 fitness domains:
- Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance
With workouts that are scalable, CrossFit Kids can equally benefit a person who is less active or an accomplished athlete by tailoring workouts so that each participant is challenged just enough to deliver measurable results and personal athletic progress.
Imagine this – your child wakes up and eats a sugary cereal for breakfast before sitting on a bus to go to school. They get to school and sit in class all day, possibly being rewarded for good behavior or correct answers with candy.
They go to lunch and eat whatever processed food that is on the menu for that day. They go back into class and sit down for the remainder of the day. If they have not had physical education then they have been sitting down all day and being fed sugary, processed foods.
Then they get on the bus and when they get home they grab another snack and sit in front of the television. Shortly thereafter, it is dinner followed by some more television or video games and finally bed.
We acknowledge this is not the case all the time, however all too often it is. This is a problem!
Here are some scary facts for you – the number 1 and number 2 health problems among children in this country are obesity and type II diabetes! 1 in 6 children will become diabetic and that number is rising. Something needs to be done about this.
We teach kids and teens functional movements in such a way that they associate fitness with fun. This program is specific to kids; it has been tested and it works. CrossFit Kids improves bone density, brain function, self confidence and body awareness.
CrossFit Kids combines gymnastics, body-weight calisthenics, and weightlifting elements to develop capacity across the 10 general physical skills (cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, coordination, flexibility, strength, agility, balance, speed, power, stamina, accuracy), with additional focus on elements that encourage bone density and vestibular system development.
Children and teens have a great opportunity to maximize their physical skills when exposed to this stimulus during years of peak development, and the elements are combined to keep children engaged and entertained, while teaching them proper movement mechanic and creating a broad athletic foundation. For CrossFit Kids it is imperative to pair fitness and fun, thus creating a lifelong love of health and fitness for our children.
Our goal at CrossFit Kids is to educate children and teens about functional fitness and inspire them to pursue it. We believe these will be the foundational experiences our children require to embark on lifelong journeys of wellness that will enable them to effectively perform simple yet necessary tasks well into their adult years.
Our dream is to foster a generation of healthy, fit individuals who require limited assistance and enjoy freedom of movement and activity throughout their life spans.
Always functional, never boring, CrossFit Kids resolves the issues of our sedentary noxious lifestyles. Working the body according to the way it was designed, we are training a generation to take responsibility for their health via the path of least resistance. – Courtesy of CrossFit Kids

3 Pillars of CrossFit Kids Program
- FUN – We pair fitness with fun. When they hear CrossFit they think of fun!
- Quality of Movement – Train kids and teens on how we were built to move. Kids and teens will not advance until they are moving perfectly without weight.
- Crossfit Kids Prescription – Constantly varied, functional movements performed with intensity. Functional movements lead to power, power leads to intensity, intensity leads to results.
We hold classes according to age group, although the price remains the same, regardless of your child’s age. Our Crossfit Kids get trained one way and our CrossFit Teens another.
CrossFit Teens: Ages 12-18
